EMA Study

Thank you for enrolling in our EMA study! As part of this study, you are being asked to answer questions four (4) times a day for thirty (30) days. Answering the questions should take less than a minute each time. The questions are delivered through an app, called the PIEL app. You will be notified at a random time 4 times a day between the hours of 8am and 6pm. You'll have an hour to complete each survey, but please complete it as soon as you can each time.

This page will tell you how to get set up with the app. Please follow the steps below. If you get stuck at any point, feel free to email ema.cuta@protonmail.com for help.

Step 1. Download the PIEL app

Make sure you have this webpage open on your phone, not your computer. Click one of the links below to download the app to your device. Return to this page after it is downloaded.

Step 2. Input your ID number and download the survey

Below, type in your ID number that was assigned to you at the end of the Qualtrics survey you completed. If you are unsure what it is, or you closed the webpage, you should have received an email with the ID number included. Press "Submit" to download the survey file onto your device. You will then be asked how you want to open the file. Choose the PIEL app. (it might say "copy to PIEL app").

Step 3. Completing questionnaires and sending data

• Go to the PIEL app and click on the survey called "EMA Study"
• Click "start scheduled survey"
• You should get a pop-up saying the survey is running. You will not answer questions immediately. Look out for notifications from the app for you to complete each survey.
• You have one hour to complete each survey or it is missed.
• At the end of the 30 days, you will have the option to email your data. Make sure you have the email app that your phone came with e.g. if you have an iphone, you need the mail app (gmail or yahoo apps will not work).
• If it doesn't prompt you to email your responses, click the blue arrow to the right of the survey name, and press "email responses" it will open up in your mail app and you just need to press "send".

After your data has been received by the study team, you will receive a gift card to amazon for your participation.

If you completed 75% or more of the surveys, you will receive the full $20. If you complete less than that, the amount will be prorated depending on how many surveys you completed.
